Question : My husband has swelling/protruding in lower left groin. He is in significant discomfort in groin. He also has an upset stomach. He had a Bowel Movement, so not obstructed. He is very healthy 64-year-old. He is a healthy weight and takes no medications. I am thinking it is a hernia but want to see if this is urgent enough for a trip to ER on holiday weekend.
Correction: Right side
No fever
Brief Answer:
No a planned surgery would be done.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query,
Yes dear very likely it's inguinal or femoral hernia.A surgery would be required to cure it. It is a very common surgery.Unless there is pain or any other symptom it's not an emergency and there is no need to go to ER.Take your time and plan a visit to a surgeon.Planned surgery would be done for reduction of hernia.
