Question: My husband went to see his primary care Dr. He is 55 and hasn't been to see a Dr. in a long time. He had chest pains after a shoulder injury at work and blood in his stools. They referred him to a cardiologist and to get a sleep study. Also, blood tests, which include HIV screening, gonorrhea and syphilis. Are those tests normal for a blood workup?

Brief Answer:
Total blood count with formula, blood chemistry and fybroscopy needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

Taking count that your husband had a chest pain due to a shoulder injury and also blood in stools the tests needed may be a xray of shoulder or MRI and fybrogastroscopy to check for ulceras of gastrointestinal tract .
Taking count that he hasn't been to a doctor for a long time also he may need to do a total blood count with formula, blood chemistry and also an ECG and the STD tests (just for a check up).
I don't know why he needs to undergo a sleep sturdy since you don't describe any symptoms in his sleep such for example sleeping apnea.
