Question : My kidney area has been tender to the touch the last month or so. I have recently altered my fitness routine, so initially i thought it was basic back/nerve pain, since the pain changes or is resolved with movement. But the fact that there is some discomfort when I press the flank area is concerning.
I have had some possible symptoms of lupus (butterfly rash, nostril sores, foamy urine, intermittent achy joints) for a couple years and am wondering if the kidney area tenderness could be connected to lupus nephritis or some liver problems.
Otherwise, I have good blood pressure, no edema, good bowel movements, and a good amount of energy.
Would you suggest I visit a nephrologist or general practitioner to have tests?
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
I still think it's a Musculoskeletal pain.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description,it looks like Musculoskeletal pain.Skeletal muscle relaxant tablet containing Thiocolchicoside will help.
In Kidney involvement, there will be Edema of face, legs etc. They are absent in your case.
If you want to exclude Liver problem, Ultrasound abdomen is the basic investigation followed by Liver function tests.
For Nephritis,Urine and blood examinations are mandatory.
I prefer General practitioner for initial checkup and tests.
If any problem is noticed regarding Kidney, then Nephrologist can be consulted.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health
Regards
