Question : My knee locked up last night, and I can not bend it without excruciating pain. I did not incidentally injure myself or experience any acute trauma. It hurts directly below my kneecap and runs toward the inner part of my knee. My new job does require me to sit for 8 hours at a time. No previous injury or pre-existing condition. What should I do? Who should I see for an exam.?

                                    Brief Answer:
Can be due to arthritis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A sudden excruciating pain in knee on bending without any previous history of injury can be due to arthritis or a ligament or meniscus tear due to wear and tear. This is not likely to be related to sitting for long hours. You need to consult an orthopedician for an examination and get an MRI scan done for proper diagnosis and treatment. Till then you can do a hot compress, take a mild pain killer and avoid all the painful movements and avoid bearing weight on the knee.
I hope this answers your query.
