Question : For the past one week my poop has turned green. I had a telephone appointment with a GP who isn't concerned. My mum had rectal cancer and pancreatic cancer so I am worried sick. The shape always changes daily though it seems.normal other than being green. It is 8 days now and I haven't eaten anything green or on any antibiotics. I do have a picture but don't like just attaching it unless you specifically ask to see picture

Stools are foul.
No increased frequency and appetite just the same. I have no symptoms other than the green poop

The only thing is I fluctuate from constipation to loose stools and sometimes normal

The only other thing I can think is I have been having blue slushies every day. I am wondering if that can be a cause. I am going to stop having them to see if things resolve
In the past I have been diagnosed with IBS but I haven't had problems for years

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound scan

Hi,
Thanks for writing back
Most common cause for such green stools is medication like antibiotics or those which increase the gastric emptying time.
Since, you hav no recent significant medication history, i would recommend a ultrasound scan of the abdomen to rule out any disturbances to the bile outflow from the liver which is one amongst the cause and a serious one.
Hope, I answered your query
Wishing you good health

I am absolutely worried sick now. My GP wasn't concerned now I am in panic mode. If I had some kind of liver problem wouldn't i have some kind of symptoms?

is now watery green diarrhoea literally like a wee. I am so scared I have cancer. If I go and be assessed at hospital I don't want to be kept in cos I feel fine other than this problem

I had a full set of bloods in May including liver tests that all came back normal this was just general annual screening
Brief Answer:
Yes, you are right

Hi,
Thanks for writing back
Yeas, blood tests like liver function tests would have shown if there is any problem related to bile outflow.
As I said, faster gastritic emptying can also lead to such green stools, which can be seen in milder cases of Dyspepsia too.
Regards,
Yes, you are right
