Posted on Mon, 1 Oct 2018
Question: My new doctor just abruptly changed my Buspar dosage from 60 mg/day to 30/mg/day (against my wishes). This was 10 days ago. I am having violent dreams. Today, I am having intrusive thoughts about every wrong thing I have done in the past. Are these related to the dosage decrease? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Tapper dosage gradually.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think that 30 mg/day is the maximum maintenance dosage so it is right that you don't take 60mg/day anymore.
The buspirone usually doesn't have withdrawal symptoms or habit forming but in your case you are experiencing them because of the high dose you were taking.
I can suggest you to lower dosage gradually.
Lower the dosage by 10mg /day every 3weeks to cope with symptoms.
So take 50 mg/day first 3 weeks, then 40mg other 3 weeks and then 30 mg /day.
Talk to your doctor for the symptoms you are experiencing and she will understand.

Hope I have answered the question.
