Question : My partner has tested positive for syphilis so I just got tested and it came back negative. We both do not have any symptoms. Should I seek out treatment? If so can I just go to a clinic explain this and get treated? Can it be taken care of with only one shot?
Brief Answer:
Confirm Syphilis for your partner and have a single shot for yourself.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Biological false positive results can occur with diseases other than Syphilis with nonspecific reagin tests like VDRL and RPR. Confirm Syphilis with specific Treponemal antigen tests for your partner.
Syphilis in the absence of symptoms is called as latent Syphilis.
If Syphilis confirmed for your partner, it's always better to have a single shot of Inj. Benzathine penicillin 2.4 mega units as an epidemiological dose for yourself.
