Question : My son, 24 years old, turning 25 in September. Since early-mid he's been experiencing lightheadedness, pressure in his head/face, dizziness. He's had MRI - cleared by a neurologist for neurological disorders. Had EKG - clear, general blood work - clear, blood work for 3 tick borne illnesses - clear, X-ray of his neck which showed a loss of curvature in his cervical spine. Has been seeing chiropractor for adjustments since July, had a few therapeutic massages and 2 appointments with PT. He's been doing exercises PT recommended regularly for a month.
He has had a history of generalized anxiety. Anxiety is aggravating this condition considerably. This disorder is greatly affecting / limiting his activities. He hasn't been to the office since early but continues to do his job remotely, successfully. He's lost 10 pounds.
He is spending most of his days in AC in low light with low activity. I'm very concerned.

Brief Answer:
See answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I would like to make sure you check him for diabetes.
Check glucose levels, fasting and post prandial and HbA1c.
The reactive hypoglycaemia can happen in people with damaged glucose tolerance causing lightheadness and dissines.
Also the medications he may be taking for anxiety can do it.
Another cause may be an inner ear infection that may clear up in 6 weeks.
Also anxiety itself can cause lightheadness.
Migraine should be ruled out from neurologist.
*Meanwhile make sure he is taking enough fluids to keep hydrated.
*Have enough sleep
*Meet a psychotherapist too for anxiety problems

Hope I have answered the question.

Thanks.

Thank you Dr. Olgeta Xhufka,

He had his blood levels check for low blood sugar in XXXXXXX Normal. He's also been to an ENT and a neurologist who specializes in inner ear dizziness. Normal.

Knowing this, do you still recommend testing for diabetes?

Brief Answer:
Migraine or anxiety may cause it.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Knowing that his blood sugar levels are normal I suppose he may be suffering migraine and his neurologist should consider this.
Also it may come from the severe anxiety he may be suffering.
Hope he will get well soon.
Best regards.
