Question : My son fell off of a hover board today and smashed his head on the concrete. He got a huge egg instantly on the back. The bump was very read and slightly bleeding. I kept him awake for 3 hours, and continuously checked his pupils. He then fell asleep for about 2 hours. I woke him up to check on him and his eyes are blood shot red. Is this normal ?

Hello,

Sorry to hear about son. The redness (blood shot red eyes) is due to subconjuctival haemorrhage if it is present in white part of eye. It is not a worrying sign if there is no vision complaints and consciousness is normal. It should settle in next 10-15 days. Please send me image of his eyes to confirm.

It is good that he is conscious. Please check for other dangerous signs of head injury

- Vomiting
- Ear nose throat bleed
- any fits or jerk movements in body
- focal weakness
- excessive sleepiness

If any of these symptoms are there, please consult emergency to get NCCT head.
