Question : My son is 4. has been having diarrhoea. 8 times till now.can I give him loperamide
Brief Answer:
Gastroenteritis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query,
Have seen your details,
Fluid repletion along with electrolytes is very important in Diarrhea.
After every motion give child a glass of Electral/Oral rehydration solution.
Loperamide 2mg twice to thrice daily can be given till loose motions stop.
A combination of Ofloxacin and Ornidazole can be given along with it in 5 ml twice daily dose.
However as the child already had.motions 8 times its advised to keep a monitor on pulse/Blood pressure or to visit nearest Emergency room if things don't improve and motions continue.
Initially give child a lots of Oral rehydration solution.
Follow ups are welcome.
Regards!
