Question : My son who is 10 years old got a PDE exposure rabies vaccine 3 doses 2 months back. Recently a cat scratched his face. Since PEP of 3 doses was just taken 2 months back, do I need to take any vaccine since I antibodies would still be there
Brief Answer:
The complete dose should be repeated.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Re exposure after a partial/incomplete vaccination should be considered as a fresh case and full course of vaccination should be repeated, that means he has to take whole four doses of vaccines at 0, 3, 7, 28 days.
The need for immunoglobulin is assessed by the severity of the wound and generally not required for scratches and abrasions.
Hope I have answered your query.
