Question: Hi Team ,

My son who is 11 months old , accidentally spilled hot water and sustained first degree burns over his chest , face and right arm and second degree burns on some part of abdomen. We had to take him to emergency in Rainbow Hospital near Banjara Hills on 19 July 2018 and he was discharged on 21 July 2018 . As per doctor advise , he requires complete medical attention and extra care to avoid bacterial infection for at least 15 days .

Questions : Based on the Discharge Report , how long will it take to heal ?
Will he get scars ?
How can we avoid scars if he gets it ?
How can we avoid bacteria and infection and what all precautions can we take to avoid bacteria and Infection ?
What are good protein foods to take in for 10 months old ?
He seems to be taking only mother Feed most of the time and avoiding food as of now and suggest good food for this situation ?

Brief Answer:
Usually it takes 14 days, scars are less common

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform
I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
I am sorry but I am not able to open the discharge file so request you to reattach it.
First degree burn usually heals without leaving scars within 7 days. Chances of bacterial infections are also less. While second degree burns are more prone to bacterial infection and scars.
Second degree burn usually heals within 2weeks with little scar that too fades out as rhe baby grows.
To prevent bacterial infection I would suggest you to apply antibiotic cream over the skin lesion, take extra precautions to maintain proper hygiene. You can apply wet medicated gauze(gelonet) over the affected area as this helps in preventing bacterial infection and also early healing.
Regarding diet you can give dal, oats as a source of protein. Continue giving milk, that is also a good source of protein. Regular milk and complementary feeds including dal, oats etc is sufficient in maintaining protein requirement. You can give undiluted cow milk and egg white after one year of age.
If you notice any fever, any discharge from the skin lesion please contact your pediatrician immediately as this may be early sign of infection.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Brief Answer:
Collagen dressing helps in rapid recovery

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for follow up

Sorry for the delayed reply.
I have seen the documents and the care given is very good. Collagen dressings are very helpful in early recovery and also in prevention of bacterial infection.
Collagen dressings in first and second degree burns helps in decreasing scars also. Collagen is one of the components of skin.Collagen dressing is natural, non immunogenic, painless, less scar forming tendency and it acts as a barrier for bacteria causing skin infection. It gives a and it helps in fibroblast proliferation, early skin cells rejuvenation. It is one of the best natural barrier between the denuded skin and environment.
Once applied it usually starts peeling off gradually after 10-12 days as the new skin grows below this.
Continue antibiotics for 5 days, probiotics, multivitamin as advised. Watch for any abnormal signs like redness or any discharge.
In discharge medication paracetamol has been advised as an analgesic.Continue all medications and I hope the baby will recover completely within 10-14 days.
Wishing for early recovery of the baby.
Regards
