Question : My son woke up with swelling on the right side of his face only between his lip and nostril. It appears he has either a fever blister of cold sore inside his nostril. I'm just wondering if either of these can cause mild to moderate swelling?

Brief Answer:
May be nasal furuncle.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and reviewed attached images. Here is my advice.

As per your history and images, it may be nasal furuncle (pimple).

Nasal furuncle may cause due to bacterial or viral infection. It may also cause due to minor injury like nose picking or forceful nose blowing.

In case of pain you can give tablet acetaminophen. Along with that, do hot compression three times a day for 15 mins. You can apply topical antibiotic cream like bacitracin(in case of open sore). It should be available over the counter.

Please let me know does he have fever, runny nose, allergy, sore throat? In that case he may require oral antibiotics after detailed medical examination and physician's opinion.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further... Thank you.

Thank you. It appears to be a access (small) that formed due to a pimple in his nose. We did see the dr and acquired some Bactroban due to the placement of the pimple. Thanks for your help
