Lomotil is made of two drugs, one that is in the family of narcotics and the other one is atropine. The combination has a stronger affect in controlling bowel movement and reducing diarrhea.
Even though one of the components is a narcotic it does not show to develop signs of dependence and tolerance as the other narcotics do so i would not expect the side effects to fade with time. Knowing which side effects she has been developing might help us give proper advice related to them and how to help ease them.
To conclude i would say:
- unfortunately it is very likely the side effects will continue with the use of lomotil
- depending on the side effects there are things that can be done in some cases to help ease them
- making sure your wife is well hydrated and takes balanced fluids and electrolytes is important. Oral rehydration solutions are best to have this balance.
