Question : My wife has been taking Zintac 150 (Rantidine) for last 3 months, as advised by a doctor from CMC Vellore. This was post a month of PpIs.Sudden stopping causes acidity. Can the dose be halved to 75 g? Is there such a tablet available?

I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

You can break the 150 mg tablets in to two if they are not coated tablets.
Liquid Ranitidine is also available which she can take.
But that dose may not be adequate to relieve symptoms.

For complete relief of symptoms , in addition to medications, dietary and lifestyle modifications are also important. The following are some of the changes that are to be done -

Weight reduction if obese
Avoiding tight fitting clothes
Avoiding coffee, citrus, chocolates, carbonated beverages, spicy food/fatty food
Eating multiple smaller meals
Going to bed 2-3 hours after food
Stress relief

Also blood glucose and thyroid function should be checked.
