Question: My wife has dementia but healthy. Tired yesterday from activities, but visited. started coughing with mucus drooling and spitting out. Bed early, mucus stopped but coughing continued. Gave throat soothing pill, coughing stopped 1:30 a.m.. Today exhausted, hardly walk, not eat, Back to bed

By your history and description, the possibility of simple viral upper respiratory tract infection is more likely.

So tell her to drink plenty of warm fluids orally.
Do warm saline water gargles 5-6 times a day.
Give her simple antihistamine like Levocetirizine 10mg or Fexofenadine.
She would mostly improve with all these in 2-3 days.

If not improving then get done chest X-ray to rule out lung infection.
