Question : My wife has had a dry cough caused by feeling like something is stuck in the back of her throat since the beginning of January. Shes tried cough syrups, allergy meds, asthma puffer, and a XXXXXXX drip thing and nothing is working so far recommended from family physician. Cough hasn't changed for better or worse. Other than a typical cold that lasts for 3 months, what else could it be?

Brief Answer:
It can be caused by GERD.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
She has tried many different remedies cough syrup, allergy medications, asthma puffer, and nasal drip so most likely it is not asthma or allergy.
It can be cough caused by acid reflux due to throat irritation due to GERD.
Gastroesophageal reflux irritates the throat causing inflammation and the need to clean the throat frequently.
You can write me if she has other symptoms like burning sensation in chest, hyperacidity, regurgitation of food in throat etc.
If she doesn't have GERD she may need to consult a pulmonologist to perform a spyrometry and bronchoscopy.
Chronic bronchitis or emphysema are possible.

Hope I have answered the question.
