Question: My wife is 3 months pregnant and has severe cough and cold. Is it safe for her to take general common flu medication? Like a paracetamol and cold act tablets?

It is ok to have some cold and cough during pregnancy and mostly these episodes resolve by themselves. Taking ginger tea helps. Blowing nose. Using other natural techniques like saline nasal cleansing with neti pot also help.
For a severe cough and cold, medicines can be taken. Safe medicines during pregnancy include paracetamol for fever, ibuprofen for pain or headache, cetirizine for nose congestion and sputum, doxylamine for vomiting, nasal sputum.
Avoid tablets like coldact that have more than one ingredient.
