Detailed Answer:
Hi...
Welcome to the 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I am Dr. Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

The symptoms of yours are very likely due to neuropathy which is caused by damage or disease affecting the somatosensory nervous system.

Neuropathy may cause radicular pain, heaviness, numbness, and tingling and pain may be associated with abnormal sensations called dysesthesia.
Symptomatology can be continuous and/or episodic.

Kindly visit a neurologist for a complete neurological examination and further evaluation.

Blood work(including counts, serum electrolyte, calcium, phosphorus), Vitamin assays(especially B12 Levels), hormonal levels (especially thyroid and parathyroid), nerve conduction studies, EMG (Electromyography) and Spine/Brain MRI are procured in such patients.

The specialist would treat you according to the examination findings and investigation reports.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards

Thank you for this information. I also have always been low in vitamin D. Could that be a cause too?

Brief Answer:
It is very likely a neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Though Vitamin B12 has been primarily implicated but clinical data has suggested that a Vitamin D deficiency augments the neuropathic symptoms and pain.
A supplementation of Vitamin D improves the neuropathic pain and decreases the need for pain killer medications.
The correction of vitamin D deficiency would be good for you.

Happy living.
