Question : If a person survived swollowing a pint of draino what are the long-term effects and treatments that someone might have to undergo to undue the dammage?
Brief Answer:
Bad prognosis
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Fortunately the person survived the suicide attempt. Unfortunately, the long term consequences are dire; the organ that is obviously most affected is the esophagus, and early on it leads to strictures, which are obstructions that prevent normal transit of food and need repeated dilatations; in many people, the problem becomes so severe that they need to get a gastrostomy tube for feedings. It has also been linked in the longer term with an increased risk of esophageal cancer.
