is there any prior test or things to take up before we plan for it . Is there any time period on which i should stop driniking (im a social drinker, monthly 1 or 2 times). Should my wife take a thyroid test. Some few things i can think off, if there is any advice you can give appreciate it .

Yes, there are essential set of tests which would be needed to determine the fertility. They are :

Thyroid tests,
Complete blood count with hemoglobin estimation,
A follicular scan
Endometrial thickness estimation

In males:
Semen analysis.

Also yes, you may have to quit drinking till you couple conceive, as drinking can affect the sperm count.
