Question : Hi Dr, I have a baby who is turning 2 in couple of months.I had very bad time after my delivery , my mood swings were uncontrollable those days.Now being so long after delivery , I am still experiencing the worst mood swings only during a week before my periods date.I would be damn angry for nothing and turn house upside down..I usually never get angry before marriage or before pregnancy I could say. it started when I was pregnant , I used to e very hungry and shout for food.Although I had so many people of take care very lovingly I never gave them the respect for their love Even today I am having this bad uncontrollable anger at its peak only before periods.Once I get my periods , I will be so happy and never like to think of previous day. every month it's a burden for my family members and even for me to go through this tough phase.I even think of dying if the situation goes bad.I definitely want to come out of this.Please help me with medication and suggest me how to overcome this issue.

Although it is not a good idea to diagnose someone without seeing personally but the available details indicates that you are currently suffering with premenstrual dysphoric disorder otherwise known as PMDD. The diagnosis is suggested by the fact that there is functional impairment during and before menstruation in addition to complete resolution of symptoms after menstrual cycle.

The problem is completely treatable with use of either medications or lifestyle changes or combination of both.

The life style changes include
Restriction of high Kalorie diet
Use of antioxidants
Stress management
Proper hydration
Regular exercise
Adequate rest among others.

The medications used for the condition are prescription only and need proper information/in person consultation to prescribe one or another.
