Question : I have a premature heart beat, which according to my cardiologist was present since I was born. Mild schizophrenia also runs on my maternal side of the family. I would like to try shrooms and was wondering what the risks are to my heart and whether it would make me more prone to schizophrenia

Hello,

The risk of consuming magic mushrooms or shrooms is not known on the heart but in regard to mental health there is definite risk. Although data is limited but as a clinician I came across three individuals whose psychiatric illness was precipitated after consumption of magic mushrooms. The symptoms for the three individuals were different ranging from mild anxiety to florid psychotic symptoms.

Considering my experience and other data I feel it will be too risky to consume shrooms for someone who have genetic component for schizophrenia.
