Pregnant, Done With Inner Vaginal Ultrasound. Any Abnormality?

Posted on Fri, 31 May 2013
Question: I'm going to be 8 weeks pregnant on fri. I had an ultra sound last Tuesday and I was measuring 6 weeks 2 days 3 days smaller. The tech measured using a inner vaginal ultrasound. Went back to doctor yesterday I measured 7 weeks 2 days an extra day smaller than last week. The tech said the heartbeat was normal but I have to get results from doctor Monday.. Is that bad my second u/s measured a day or 2 smaller than last weeks? Could it be smaller bc he measured it in an abdominal u/s?

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

Please tell me the first day of your last period?
Also, what were your cycles like leading up to this last period?

Thank you!

My last weird was 3/15 so I should be 8 weeks this Friday. Before that my period was every 26 days or every 30 days. For the last 4 months before I got pregnant. I measured 6 weeks 2 days when I should of been 6 weeks 4 days and I measured 7 weeks 2 days when I was suppose to be 7 weeks 5 days.. The heartbeat at my 6 week was 122.. The tech last time at my dr office for the 7 weeks I asked him at end he said he forgot but said it was in healthy range and the doctor could tell me more.. The first u/s at 6 weeks was done by another place and tech and everytime I end up going to the clinic who is doing my pregnancy I end up leaving uncomfortable. Is it normal it's off my a few days each u/s. the first u/s was done transvaginal the most recent done by abdominal
I only had sex 2 the month I got pregnant and it was march 23 and 24

Thank you for the information.

1. Based on a LMP of 3/15, TODAY you are 7 6/7 wks
2. A discrepancy of only 48 -72 hours on either ultrasound is completely normal
3. The "error" in ultrasound at these gestational ages is about +/- 4-5 days
4. A heart beat of 122 at 6 weeks is completely normal and reassuring

Everything you are telling me is completely normal and reassuring! The slight variation that we see on ultrasound also has to do with the variation in when, exactly, conception and implantation actually occurs.

It sounds like you are doing well and should feel much better based on all of these results.

I hope that this helps!
