Question : Problem - Lipoma on the scalp
History - I have had lipoma on my scalp since I was a child but they were very small and few and were never any bother. However, in the last few years they have grown in size and number. There are 4 of them that are much bigger and now are visible through my hair. One of them also ruptured and had some liquid oozing out. Over the course of few weeks it dried out completely and now no longer there.
1. Apart from removing them surgically is there any other option?
2. Can liposuction be done? How effective it is?
3. Any preventive measure so it doesn't happen?
4. Mine are only on the scalp and no where else. My hair is oily. Is that something to do with it?
5. Any other new techniques to remove or prevent them from happening?
Thank you.

                                    Brief Answer:
No treatment options apart from surgical excision
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor service
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
There are no other treatment options for lipomas other than surgical excision.
I don’t think liposuction is effective treatment for lipomas.
There are no preventive measures to stop there occurrence as these are benign tumors which can develop in any person at any time and place.
For oily scalp I would recommend you to use a ketoconazole shampoo twice weekly. It will reduce oiliness of scalp.
Unfortunately there are no procedures to remove them or prevent them from occurring except surgical excision.
