Question : Probobly easiest if I list the issues: --loud stomach gurgling. --sore throat --constant need to clear throat --chest pressure -'hard to breath --achy sore legs --headache. This seem to have started over a month ago with having trouble clearing chest pressure to breath better and the feeling to need to cough up something. I used a nebulizer treatment (duo neb), steroids, a antibiotic (z-pack), mucinex, and heartburn medication. and antacids. The chest pressure has relieved a bit so I breath better but it comes back after I eat. I seem to be able to better control the chest pressure and constant need to clear throat most of the time, but now I am left with very load stomach gurgling, sharp throat pain a headache and achy legs. I have been to my dr 3 times and had a cat scan along with medications I listed he cant find a anything but I am in constant discomfort and believe maybe I need a scope to see down my throat and stomach. I have been a pretty healthy person until this. I feel like my dr thinks I'm crazy but I just need to get better. Any ideas???

Brief Answer:
Yes...Endoscopy is indicated as a part of your work up

Detailed Answer:
Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Usually such symptoms are common in hiatus hernia.
In a hiatus hernia ,the stomach gets pulled in to the chest cavity through diaphragm and the prominent symptoms are hyperacidity, regurgitation, heartburn and pressure in chest.
Throat irritation is also very common.

You need further work up in the form of endoscopy, endoscopic manometry and Barium swallow.

Time being, have multiple small meals instead of three major meals.
Avoid alcohol,tea,coffee,spicy,fried and heavy foods.
Avoid junk.
Be physically active.
Quiet smoking (if applies).
Raise the head end of the bed by 35 degrees.

It will be good if you de stress yourself.
This would help you to reduce your symptoms too.
It would be unethical to label your symptoms as psychological till all organic causes have been ruled out.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.

Would a hiatus hernia that bothers my chest show up on a CT scan of my chest? I really appreciate your help.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

It may or may not be.

Studies have suggested that CT scan is not the traditional diagnostic method for hiatus hernias though it can be used for clinical correlation of significant cases.

A large hiatus hernia may be visible on CT Scan of chest (where the sac of the hiatus hernia appears as a separate “sac” lying between the esophagus and the stomach) but endoscopy and Barium swallow are the investigation of choice.
They are best diagnosed by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy or barium swallow.
