Brief Answer:
Can be a problem related with nerves or muscles in intestines.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The type of constipation your are talking about is more or less a sort of fecal impaction. Impaction may be caused due to weakness in contractions of muscles in intestines or mild to moderate loss of functions of nerves supplying intestines because of degeneration of myelin sheath.
I would suggest you to go for a bowel emptying scan as well as an MRI to rule out the above mentioned problem. MRI splits the water intake of every nerve and muscle. So less water intake suggest poor performance.
Till then
Use Polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution to empty the colon. PEG-ES is in a class of medications called osmotic laxatives. It works by causing watery diarrhea so that -the stool can be emptied from the colon.
Take probiotic once daily.
Take isaphghul husk a natural bulk forming agent 2 tsp twice daily. It swells up by imbibing water and would help to form bulk in stools.
Eat veg food and try to avoid heavy lean proteins.
Follow up with results of these two tests.
In case you want to know about ways to treat constipation please revert back.
Hope i provided you with a valid and scientific advice.
Feel free to follow up.
Regards and thanks!

Thank you for your response, I am a 36-year-old male, I had my gallbladder out at 19 years old, since that surgery my body has not been right. I have suffered with all kinds of stomach issues throughout my life but it seems I have gotten most under control until now. In all honesty my issues feel more intestinal than actually stomach related, for example foods do not upset my stomach. When I do feel ill it's more intestinal/bowel related.

I have been tested for SIBO I have been tested for food allergies including silly act disease all came back negative. I am not lactose intolerant.

Aside from routine bloodwork, all came back good, I have had a colonoscopy, endoscopy and gastric emptying study. I do not have any major health problems overall, I do not have high blood pressure, I do not have diabetes, I do not have heart disease, or anything else I am aware of. I have had anal warts removed a few times, but that was years ago and did not cause any problems after I had the procedure.

As far as stress, I have an average amount nothing too overwhelming. I do not have children and I am financially secure. I

In respect to medication, have been prescribed Wellbutrin I have been on it since 2005. I have been prescribed dicyclomine 5which I no longer take because I know it can cause constipation).

In respect to my symptoms, the main complaint is constipation. Lately it feels like no matter what I do my body will not release the feces. I feel sharp pains in my left flank and lower pelvis. I get a heavy feeling under my rib cage like there is an air bubble trapped there. When I have to move my bowels I feel it in my stomach but when I sit on the toilet and push it feels like my insides tighten up and won't let anything pass. It almost feels like the feces is stuck in my gut and will not drop down to my rectum. I constantly feel bloated and have a feeling of air being in my stomach. When I press on my lower abdomen I hear air and water squish around. No matter what I do I can't get the air to pass- it feels like a bubble stuck in a hose- like air trapped in a water line.

Hopefully this makes sense.

Thank you so much for this! This sounds very accurate.

I am taking Linzess and Lactulose to prevent impacting.

I have an appointment set with a Dr.

Question, what are some causes? And how might this be treated?

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

As explained earlier the work to push feces through intestinal tractis done by your persistalytic contraction and power to them is provided by nerves supplying the intestines.
As most of the tests are normal we have to know if nerves are normal or not.
As told earlier a MRI would be a good option along with bowel emptying scan(related to large intestine).
Till then there is i think no use of making wild guesses.
