Detailed Answer:
Hi.....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor "service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Though they are very rewarding antibiotics which have been used for over 35 years, quinolones are very toxic drugs.

Most common side effect of quinolones are gastrointestinal upset including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain etc.

This group is avoided in children under the age of 18 years because of risk of damaging the weight-bearing joints in children and susceptibility to other adverse effects like tendinitis and tendon rupture.

Tendinitis (inflammation of a tendon) and tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy and CNS effects like agitation, inability to focus, dizziness, delirium, confusion, memory impairment, and seizures may happen after taking quinolones.

They have also been associated with low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) specially in elderly and diabetics.

Occasionally liver damage and allergic reactions have been reported.

The adverse effects are more pronounced in elderly persons.
They are excreted via kidneys so a kidney impairment requires dose adjustment.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
