Gross Description
The specimen is received in formalin, labeled with the patient's name, medical record number, and "core
biopsy right lung". It consists of multiple cylindrical cores and fragments of soft tissue ranging from 0.3
cm to 0.6 cm greatest dimension. The specimen is submitted entirely in one cassette labeled A1.

Final Diagnosis
LUNG, RIGHT, BIOPSY:
Rare atypical cells with fibrotic tissue in a background of necrosis and abundant inflammatory cells. See

Immunostains performed with adequate controls show the following results:
AE1/3-Cam5.2, TTF1, p40 and BRST2: Negative
GATA3: Positive in inflammatory cells
