Question: Really concerned about microscopic hematuria think it’s been going on over a year. Been to the go several times as had uti several times over the recent years. Some shown no infection , the last one 10 weeks ago but had visible blood with pain on urinatung however as I had antibiotics here I had taken 3 before I got to gp so as showed no infection in it then we don’t know if actually was present. But on taking 2 of the tablets blood stopped completely. Before this occasion in September I went to question blood in ursine as I had my own dip tests which seemed to show microscopic blood all the time thegp sent urine to check cells which were normal but I asked to refer as had also suffered back pain fr long time but gp didn’t see the need she said thinks back was muscular problem. The gp gave me more antibiotics when I had thus visible blood as I had said it was improving as I took the antibiotics. However I put sample in 4 days aftr the blood came which he said was still show +1 blood so this diff gp thinks need see specialist said wouldn’t be long so I have a ultrasound scan and a camera in bladder on the 19th which feels like an eternity away. My biggest concern is I should been referd over a year ago if showed blood but no infection. And I have read up on all this which clearly says cancer bladder symptoms mimic uti and blood can come and go so I feel it’s got to be bladder cancer but wasn’t recognised so it could be detrimental to.me now . The go didn’t offer no explanation o reassurance which didnt help . I just said I need to see what’s going on as been burying myself since september. I am usually fit and well at 53 and I think I have started the. Menapase as last period was October 25 th none since. I havnt lost no weight but I know that means nothing

Brief Answer:
Have you had a CT scan?

Detailed Answer:
Hi Donnapowell,

I am sorry to hear about your troubles. Have you had a CT urography or cystoscopy performed? If so, what did they show? Cancer must be ruled out, although it is unlikely.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Brief Answer:
It is probably nothing

Detailed Answer:
Hi again XXXXXXX

I am sure it is nothing. Most likely it is a kidney stone or another benign condition. I know the waiting time is hard, but you should not worry.

I asked my gp about kidney stone he said no didn’t think was that ! So when I’m having them tests do they tell me there and then what’s there as I have to go alone no one is here only my younger daughter so I’m not putting her through worry as she is worried allready. I’m angry at no referral before if I’m honest as gp did say over year ago blood in it but no action was taken

Brief Answer:
The scan will provide an answer

Detailed Answer:
Hi again XXXXXXX

Your symptoms are suggestive of kidney stones. I would recommend a CT urography rather than an ultrasound, but an ultrasound is a good place to start. In my country the standard for a person with visible blood in the urine and an age above 50 is a cystoscopy and a CT urography to rule out cancer.
