Question : Hi my son is 2.9 yrars old and 14kg. I gave paracetmol 5ml around 1 30 am and fever has not come down. Now it is 3 30 am. Shall i give him meftal ?
Fever is fluctuating between 101 and 102

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

For fever, kindly give paracetamol 10-15 mg/kg/dose every 4 to 6 hourly as required. In between, do cold sponging.

Meftal is nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug and mainly helps in mild to moderate pain.

So instead of Meftal, kindly give paracetamol every 4 to 6 hourly.

In case of not getting relief, I would suggest you to consult with pediatrician for detailed clinical examination. He may procure necessary blood Investigations as per evaluation.

How much time it takes lower the temperature after we give paracetmol?

I gave 5ml of paracemol and I tried sponging.
Evenafter one hour his body is still hot.

Yday after 2 and half hours I gave him meftal, then fever has come down in 30 min.

Usually temperature come down after 30 to 45 mins of taking paracetamol.

Considering your child weight 14 kg and syrup dosage 125 mg/5 ml, he may require around 8.4 ml/dose.

So insufficient dosage may not be effective. So kindly give proper dosage.

Meftal also has some antipyretic property but it mainly effective in reducing pain and paracetamol has mainly antipyretic activity.

Along with that kindly follow all measures as suggested earlier.
