Question : I had an echocardiogram done a few days ago. I am seeing if these results are bad and if I should be worried about them. I am 41, 6FT, 220 lbs. I have GERD so they did this test for chest pains I get sometimes. The conclusions are:
-Normal L V systolic function with EF 56%.
-Left ventricle cavity is mildly elongated.
-Mild concentric hypertrophy of the left ventricle.
-Doppler evidence of grade I (impaired) diastolic dysfunction.
-Left atrial cavity is mildly elongated.
-Structurally normal mitral valve with trace regurgitation.
-Structurally normal tricuspid valve with trace regurgitation.
-The aortic root is borderline dilated.
-Normal global longitudinal strain.
Seems like a lot and I am very worried. What do you think?

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your query,
Have seen your EKG and Echo reports.
There is nothing wrong with your heart.
Grade 1 diastolic dysfunction is there in every one after age of 35.
Ejection fraction is normal.
Concentric hypertrophy can be due to grade 1 hypertension (blood pressure) so get you blood pressure checked.
Mild regurgitation through valves is a normal finding in adults.
Nothing is abnormal in your EKG or 2D echo.
Your problem is because of GERD.
Gerd symptoms fully mimics cardiac symptoms.
So follow the medicines prescribed by your gastro and avoid spicy food.
Please feel free for follow up.
Thank you and regards!
