Should I Go To Urgent Care And Have The Pressure Relieved After I Accidentally Smashed My Thumbnail With A Hammer?

Question: I smashed my thumbnail with a hammer. I do not have any broken bones that I can tell but lots of sensitivity. It has to be iced every few hours. Should I go to urgent care and have the pressure relieved?
Brief Answer:
Should be seen, may need imaging
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes, it would be best to go to urgent care to be assessed by a doctor.
Though there is no obvious sign of a fracture, they may still want to image it by x ray to make sure that the injury is only soft tissue.
If it is purely soft tissue then treatment may consist of - rest , elevation to reduce swelling and pain (a sling maybe needed temporarily), continuation of ice therapy, possibly a bandage and anti inflammatory medication (eg ibuprofen, naproxen etc.)
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
