Should Methenamine Or D-Mannose Be Withheld While On Ciprofloxacin For UTI?

Question: My dad, 94 years old has a UTI and is taking Ciprofloxacin HCL 250 MG. His Dr. Alsoprescribed methenamine Hipp
1 gm He also recommended D-Mannose 1000 Mg. He advised me to withhold one of them until my dad completed his Cipro. I didn't 't write down which one should be withheld.
Can you tell me which I should wait to give to my dad?

Brief Answer:
Both can be used after ciprofloxacin
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Based on the history you have shared, since methenamine and ciprofloxacin may very rarely interact to cause low blood counts however D-Mannose doesn't have such significant interaction.
However both Methenamine and Mannose have a prophylactic role olny decreasing the incidence of urinary tract infection so treatment like ciprofloxacin may be completed and then both can be used afterwards. However final verdict of the treating physician who has been examining the patient in detail should be preferred.
Wishing him a speedy recovery. Hope this has answered your query. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. Regards
