Should Valium Be Discontinued While On Librium?

Question : I have been taking Valium as a muscle relaxer for 10 years. I am now going through home detox for acute alcohol with and have been prescribing Librium.....25 mg 4 times a day. Do I need to stop the Valium. Afraid of yet another withdraw.

Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

100 mg of librium is equivalent to 40 mg off valium and I do not think there are any chances of withdrawal if valium is stopped during this course of treatment.

You can safely stop valium for some time during detoxification process without any problem provided you are willing to do so. In my opinion you should attempt a stoppage as it may simultaneous use of two medications from same class cause excessive sedation and other side effects which are very common during advanced age.
