Question : My husband is to have Cataract Surgery tomorrow. Today he started passing blood in his Urine. He was on Tomsilosin but was taken off of it in preparation for the Cataract Surgery. Should I go ahead with the surgery or should it be cancelled?
Brief Answer:
Need evaluation
Detailed Answer:
Hello,welcome to HCM forum.
Passing blood in urine,in a 81 year old male warrants early evaluation to rule out important causes like bladder/kidney lesions. This needs a detailed abdominal examination, and abdominal ultrasound.Kindly see a urologist for evaluation.
Depending on the situation, you may be asked for a few other investigations like serum PSA level, endoscopy etc.
If he is having a normal blood pressure, and coagulation studies are with in normal limits, this is not a contraindication for cataract surgery.Anyhow, you have to discuss this issue with your ophthalmologist.
Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing everything to be fine.
Regards,
Dr Muhammed Aslam.
