Brief Answer:
Seborrheic Acne: Avoid waxing till complete clearance of the acne.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the froum.

After analysis of the query I can get that you have the condition called as “Seborrheic Acne” because of its site over chest and back.

Before I proceed to your issue let me explain you elaborately regarding this condition- Acne or pimples generally appears at the age of 13-14 years and then almost vanishes by the age of 25 years. These erupts basically due to hormones (chemicals which are influencing one or other body functions including growth, puberty and development of body in adults) in addition to the influence of certain other factors causing its aggravation.

Certain hormones and its bye-products play the most important role in high oil secretion and increase the size of oil glands. As the pores or ducts of the glands are blocked so it leads to formation of pimples.
These erupts basically on face but can erupt at any site where the oil glands are active including face, back chest and shoulder.

In your case you have been provided with Lymecycline Capsules with Benzoyl peroxide and Clindamycin which is very good treatment for the back acne. In my patients with your kind of condition I suggest my patients to not to do waxing till complete clearance of the acne. It is because of the fact that waxing induces more inflammation of the hair root and oil glands thereby causing more eruptions. SO in case if the acne have not healed then it is better to avoid waxing till the active acne is present.
In my patients it generally takes around 2 months for complete clearance so you can take action accordingly.
I hope that the information will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to help.

Dr Kanodia, thank you for helping me out. While my acne have almost completely gone, I wanted to know if these medicines can have an adverse effect if I undergo waxing. This arises from the common conception that you should not wax while taking acne medication for fear of burns or ripping out of the skin. If I should wait, is there any spcific amount of time before I can wax again?

Brief Answer:
It is better to avoid waxing till you are applying benzoyl peroxide.

Detailed Answer:
Dear young fellow,

Welcome back and thanks a lot for your swift follow up.

Regarding your further query: In general, these medicines are quite safe and never cause any side effects. Benzoyl peroxide has bit of the chance to cause skin irritation and waxing itself has bit of the propensity to cause skin burns so it is better to avoid the same till the medicines are on.

Waxing in itself has a tendency to cause skin irritation and burning thereby causing irritation of hair root and oil gland. So, in my patients I recommend to do waxing on its lowest of the side.

So overall it is better to avoid waxing till you are applying benzoyl peroxide. Later on also if you intend to do waxing then stop benzoyl peroxide for two days prior and 3 days later to waxing. It is better to immediately do cold compressions by towel soaked in cold water. Cold compression has great benefit in reducing the irritation thereby reducing the chances of skin burn, irritation and recurrence of pimples.
I hope that the information will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to help.
