Question: hi..I am a 44 year old healthy woman who tries to live a healthy lifestyle by my food choices and exercise.I do not smoke or drink beverages containing alcohol.I drink 32oz of water daily. I take a 1200mg fishoil pill and a stool softener daily. Until last Nov I took the GNC multi vitamin packet. I stopped taking the multi vitamin packet bcause I believe that it elevated my potassium level. My PCP ordered 3 bloodwork tests: original and 2nd flagged an elevated potassium level. 3 rd was nl and all I did was stop the multi vitamin...I noticed that in the vitamin packet that there are 2 multi vitamins. I was wondering if I was getting too much by taking 2 and If I could take only kne.I really felt as if the vitamins, exercise and my food choices allowed me to maintain my ideal wt and gave me energy to make it through the day.
What are your thoughts. I have gained about 15 lbs since last Nov.I just did not have the stamina to exercise post work

Brief Answer:
Please maintain good nutrition.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

If you do not have any hormonal imbalances like an abnormal thyroid profile, menstrual disturbances or diabetes, you can maintain a good balanced diet to provide you all the necessary vitamins and minerals. You may not need extra supplements of B-complex, but may need calcium.

If any hormonal disorders are noticed, please get them corrected immediately. The fact that you have developed this weakness after discontinuing the medication suggests that you need supplementation of B-complex. You can go for specific treatment after getting the levels checked.

Another fact that should be kept in mind is your age. It is also likely that you may have entered the peri-menopause and this is when you face sudden weaknesses. Please get your blood profile checked to look for anemia as another possible cause of the weakness. The cause of the weight gain is possibly the lack of exercise.

Please maintain a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. Try to increase the intake of liquids.

Hope I have clarified your query. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
