Question: Six weeks ago I had a total knee replacement. When I awoke from surgery I complained that my foot hurt and it was brushed aside . My knee is recovering with physical therapy. But my foot is still swollen, numb and twisted. The physical therapist does try to massage it back in place and that has had some success.it is painful, I don’t walk right, I cannot drive, or wear shoes only sneakers. The surgeon says it will take time. Am I being inpatient or is it time to see a doctor that treats feet

Brief Answer:
You should consult the Orthopedician....require further evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, slight swelling is common after knee replacement surgery and it subsides gradually. But I think twisted foot and numbness is quite significant and should be further evaluated.

For further assessment kindly consult with the Orthopedician for detailed clinical examination. S/he may procure an X-ray or MRI foot as per evaluation to rule out any possible fluid collection/dislocation. Further treatment will depend upon the underlying diagnosis.

Meanwhile, for pain, you can take tablet Motrin. Gentle application of heating pads will also helpful. You can apply Diclofenac gel locally.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
