Question : I was awaken by a strange stinging like pain(sensation) on top of the left big toe. This is new. Do you have any idea what can be causing this? It comes and goes intermittenly. I also started to have muscle cramps in my left thigh.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
From your description, your symptoms are likely to be due to nerve root compression at the level of spinal cord due to degenerative changes in the spinal cord.
An MRI of the lumbosacral spine will help in confirmation of the cause. Meanwhile for symptomatic relief you can start taking methylcobalamin and vitamin B complex supplements after consulting your physician.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Please accept my answer in case you do not have further queries.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
Dr. Praveen Tayal.
