Stool Test Done. What Does The Reports Mean?

Question: i have got done routine examination of stool and the following is the result - cysts : entamoeba hystoltytica. occult blood - present trace. vegetable cells and starch - present. red blood cells 10-15/hpf and pus cells occasional. epithelial cells - present. also reaction (ph) 6.0. It is processed with normal saline preparation and iodine preparation.

Please advise what does all this mean

Thanks for the query.

This means you have got parasitic intestinal infestation/infection called amebiasis and the causative organism is "Entamoeba histolytica".

This protozoa can affect intestine and liver also. It’s one of the common parasitic infestations. This is routinely treated with metronidazole.

Discuss the reports with your treating doctor. He/she is likely to start you on this drug soon.
