Suffering From Hair Loss. Prescribed Dutagen And Minoxidil Solution. Any Alternate Medication?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Sep 2012
Question: I am 26 yrs old. I am suffering from hairloss, I have been prescribed Dutagen,Androanagen and Minoxidil solution. I am scared to have it, because i had undergone treatment for acne 2 years back and I was on Isotroin and it caused ED to me. I am reluctant to have Dutagen and Androanagen as it took a long time for me to recover from side effects of Isotroin. Is there any alternative to Dutagen or Finasteride without the sexual side effects.

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

No, I am extremely sorry to say you there is no substitute or alternative to Dutagen or Finasteride.

If you have previous side effects of the drugs, it would be better to avoid these medications and try other measure to treat hair loss.

General measures are :
1. improve your diet with leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, plenty of water, sprouts, pulses, high protein diet, avoid items with high sugar content like sweets & chocolates, less of Chinese foods, less of pizza & burgers, more of milk & ghee, dry fruits.
2. Good sleep also has an important role to play.
3. Treat dandruff if any.
4. Relaxing techniques such as early morning exercise, transcendental meditation, yoga, etc can be useful.

You may also consider visiting a dermatologist and discuss your problem in detailed along the erectile dysfunction that you had earlier. A proper treatment can be planned accordingly which may consider the option of topical minoxidil, hair transplantation, etc.

He/she can also rule out few medical causes of hair loss like iron deficiency, hormonal imbalance, thyroid problem, stress, lack of sleep, familial, or use of chemical on scalp, procedures like perming or straightening, etc and treat them accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer and write a review.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

I have already consulted 3 dermatologists. 2 Doctors have given me Minoxidil and have given me dutagen and androanagen. I had told all of them about my problems and they asked me to stop having finax. One of the doctors gave me Dexorange,Incid,Astymin M forte and Shelcal 250.I have read about the problems with Minoxidil that once we start using it we have to use it lifelong. Could you also tell me the side effects of Androanagen. I am very worried about my hair as I am an aspiring actor and i have just moved to Mumbai from Bangalore. I understand that change in water is also one of the factors that might be adding to my hairfall so i have been using softened water to wash my hair. The third doctor also did a test on my scalp and was able to determine that I am losing about 180 hair a day.I have read about Saw palmetto tablets as substitute for Finasteride. Can i Use them instead?

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Regarding side effects of androanagen are
1. Since androgens are responsible for male characteristics, they produce side effects characteristic of men. These include increased growth of body hair, testicular shrinkage, increased sex drive, development of breasts in men, infertility, and development of severe acne on the face and back.
2. Apart from that mental side effects have been known. According to a report from the U.S. Department of Energy, androgens have the potential for mental side effects as well as physical ones. Aggression is the most consistent side effect that can occur with androgens, says this report. This can lead to the potential for violence in some people, and many homicides have been linked to androgen abuse--commonly termed "roid rage”. Other potential mental side effects of androgens include mood swings, periods of mania, paranoia, extreme irritability, jealousy and delusions.

Yes. You can use Saw palmetto tablet as substitute of Finasteride.
Saw palmetto is one of the most popular natural hair loss treatments around, mainly because it acts similar to finasteride.
The leading cause of male pattern baldness is the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT).The DHT will attach itself to the hair follicles, causing the follicles to shrink to the point that they are unable to produce new hair. Saw palmetto has the ability to decrease DHT levels, as well as block receptors which allow DHT to be absorbed into cells.

Consult your dermatologist for final opinion.
