I am 25 years old, but am abnormally tired all the time. My friends call me sloth because I always want to sleep. I recently started a new job that requires me to wake up at 5:00AM and I usually return home after a long day at 5:30PM. I try to go to bed between 9:00 and 9:30, so I am getting roughly 8 hours of sleep. I do not drink coffee, but I almost feel like I sometimes cant do my job because of how tired I am.
Also EVERY night I wake up between 2:30AM-3:40AM. My boyfriend does slightly snore, but I go to bed before him and he doesn't wake me up getting into bed, it's always around the same time and I try to fall back asleep, but then I cant because of the noise (him snoring), so I go into our guest bedroom and finish sleeping there. I don't want to take melatonin because going to sleep is not my issue, its sleeping continuously throughout the night. Please help!
Sleep hygiene measures are necessary.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Yours seems to be a sleep disorder known as sleep-maintenance insomnia - Fragmented sleep, difficulty with maintaining sleep. Fatigue is a common consequence of sleep problems. Common causes of disturbed sleep include hormones imbalances in women, psychosocial issues, mood disorders, chronic pain, etc.
Education about sleep hygiene is the mainstream approach to promote good sleep.
Some advices to follow are: get up about the same time every day, go to bed only when you are sleepy, follow a relaxing presleep routine ( slow music, reading, etc.), avoid heavy meals and caffeine in the evening, exercise moderately, follow regular meals schedule.
If no improvement then you should see a sleep Specialist.
Thanks.
This just started occurring in the last year, otherwise I was able to sleep normally before. Is there any other reasons this could be happening?
See a sleep Specialist.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
As we discussed previously, sleep disturbances may be linked to hormonal imbalances in women, psychosocial issues, mood disorders, chronic pain, psychiatric conditions, etc.
Since these suggestions are not improving your sleep get evaluated by a Sleep Specialist.
Hope I helped you.
Greetings.
