Question: End of May 2017 I was working at a nursing home in Las Cruces. (I have not been able to work the Roswell nursing homes because I was blacklisted for testifying against them in 1997.) We had to rent a place to live in Las Cruces to work the job. I was moved to a different hall and different pt. while still on orientation, I was under a lot of stress. My boss knew it been seven years since I worked as a nurse and had promise to be kind but it wasn’t happening. One night I went to the BR I had a H/A and felt stressed out. I happened to look in the mirror and the capillaries were bursting in my right eye. A few nights later I now had a new admit and other issues going on and I really felt overwhelmed. I had a H/A again. I went to the BR. and the capillaries in my left eye where breaking again. I had a tech take my BP and it was in the 170’s. I didn’t feel well and decided I had enough of this job. I didn’t need a stroke. The nurse orientating me took over and I left.

July 29, 2017 Bypass Surgery

BP ^ on meds but my BP soon got too low so stopped meds.

Feb. 2018 Chest feels like a thousand needles p0king it and itches. Healing process?
July 1, 2018, I have Phlebitis in my left leg, now.
July 12, 2018 Area over right eye feels like a bee stinging, bad, and is red. Both my eye lids are drooping.
Ears hurt. Right eye is blurry, maybe left too. Started July 5, Mild h/a. Feel pricking in other parts of my body.I have had balance problems off and on all my adult life. they were usually related to my ears being plugged. I have been told that I have more of a sinus problem then an allergy problem. A year ago I had bypass surgery. Over this past year I have realized tnat my balance, dizziness, h/a, and ears filling full, has increased. I have fallen two and almost fallen several times more. I was told by my eye Dr. that I probably had 8 cranial nerve damage. Is this true and what can I do about it. I see a Neurolgist in August. I have been on a long waiting list.

Brief Answer:
You need a detailed evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and I would try my best to help you.

I have noted your clinical details. Based on this, we need to exclude both a cerebellar (a part of brain) and eight cranial nerve (vestibular part) problem.

Headache, dizziness, imbalance, tendency to fall, etc can be symptoms of either cerebellar disease or vestibular dysfunction.

A detailed neurological examination, followed by MRI brain are needed to confirm or exclude problems with cerebellum or vestibular nerve.

As of now, you can take symptomatic treatment- betahistine tablet for dizziness and naproxen tablet for headache.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Brief Answer:
That is great to hear.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Normal MRI brain is a good news. It rules out most of the cerebellar diseases. AS]s of now, the eight nerve (vestibular) problem seems more likely.

the only problem is I have failed the three question test. the three things I was supposed to remember. Mentally I know I have changed. Is it true that a TIA cannot always be detected? I was supposedly trying to have a stroke the night I worked and had the bad h/a. It because of that that I ended up with bypass surgery. See history.

also, my husband said they had problems getting me off the heart-lung machine. My resp would drop so they have to put me back on the machine. This happened several times after the surgery. I just know I woke up with the tube still in my throat. My throat was sore for weeks afterward.

Brief Answer:
Yes, MRI brain may be normal in 50% of TIA patients.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

MRI is "negative (normal)" in about half the patients with TIA.Therefore, if we strongly suspect TIA, we usually start an anti-platelet (aspirin or clopidogrel) and work up for possible risk factors for TIA (blood sugar, cholesterol, BP, heart disease, etc), even if the MRI comes normal.

Best wishes,
