Sugges Treatment For Ligament Tear On Foot

Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: I have been diagnosed with a "possible" tear in the spring ligament on my right foot. My foot has been MRI'd 3 times, but they cannot see any tears. They think it might be a micro tear. I have had cortizone, PRP, and physical therapy twice. I have had 3 different doctors say the same thing, all three says the surgery for to repair this is terrible and they don't want to do it. I have been in a walking boot for over a year. Went to a 4th specialist (foot and ankle orthopedist). He thinks it's the lisfranc joint. Gave me another cortisone injection into that joint. It helped for a couple of days, but the pain is back. Do you have any other suggestions?

Brief Answer:
CT scanning or bone scanning will be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

It is difficult to comment without clinical examination. As there is no tears seen on MRI, it does not looks like spring ligament tear. Pain and inability to bear weight could be due to lisfranc joint(tarso-metatarsal joint).
If it is not clear on x-rays, computed tomographic (CT) scanning or bone scanning will be helpful in diagnosing the condition.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care

Were you able to open my mri report? Said something about possible sprain? If so, would having a non weight bearing cast be an option? I read 6 - 10 weeks. I haven't done that yet. Doc wants to do exploratory surgery.. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
Non weight bearing cast for 6-10 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through the MRI report attached. It suggests Lisfranc ligament low grade sprain , not a discrete tear. So in my opinion, non weight bearing cast for 6-10 weeks is a good option for this.
