Question : I have scar pain from a laminectomy and can;t take gabapentin. What can I take.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

There are several alternatives to Gabapentin. First since the pain is localized to the scar area I would try a local anesthetic like Capsaicin cream which would also be the safest alternative.

If that is not enough and oral medication is needed then alternatives would be either another anticonvulsant like Pregabalin (Lyrica) or an antidepressant used for chronic neuropathic pain such as Duloxetin (Cymbalta).
