Posted on Wed, 18 Feb 2015
Question: I have been taking zioplicone 7.5 and Prozac 30 mg for perhaps 15 years. I AM FINDING THAT I am only sleeping approx. 4 hours not enough . . . . then on weekends I am taking my meds to catch up on my sleep . . . . running out of meds and even have ordered meds online so I don't run out, /what do you think of taking remeron instead of the ziolicone with the Prozac?

Brief Answer:
Its a good option

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
If your sleep disturbance has not settled down, probably your depression is still left untreated. In that case it would be wise to switch your antidepressant. Switching from prozac to remeron is good as remeron acts on norepinephrine along with serotonin and also it has sedation property which is lacking in prozac which is an activating antidepressant.
You may certainly consider this switch.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.

What dose of remeron do you suggest I begin with? Some places I have read abouy suggest 45 mg while others consider 30 mg. Do I have to gradually discontinue the Prozac before beginning the remeron? Does the remeron cause a weight gain? Thank you so much for your for your help!

Brief Answer:
15 mg is a good dose

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Rameron can be started at 15 mg and then if required be gradually built up.
Prozac can be abruptly stopped.
Remeron can cause weight issue and the issue is quite similar to that of prozac.
