Suggest Alternative Medication For Fungal Infection In Groin Area

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Sep 2015
Question: Hello Doctor
I'm suffering from a skin disease in my groin area. I've consulted many doctors so far.
Every doctor said it is just a fungal infection and suggested some anti fungal creams like azole type (canestan, clotrimazole) and the antifungal powder viz. Abzorb. I've used many creams but none of them worked so far. These anti-funga creams only have temporary effect and as soon as they are finished (suppose two tubes in a month), the infection was again took over..Seems that I've some other disease other than just fungal infection. The affected area sometimes etches like hell and it aso pains sometimes (specially reddish are near testicle). It's a blackish thin layer coveing the original skin and near testicle, it is reddish in color. I am suffering it since last 6 years. Kindly suggest any strong cream which an cure such a long duration disease or other than cream what treatment should I go through....?

Brief Answer:
Seem to be resistant to antifungal drugs

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same.
I have seen the attached pictures .
You seem to have developed intertrigo which is basically maceration of the skin folds in the due to fungal infection .
Since you have been taking adequate treatment for the same but still developing recurrences ,it means that the antifungal drugs are not completely acting in your case .
You can take a higher antifungal like itraconazole 200 mg twice daily for five days .
Apply an antifungal cream like ketoconazole since clotrimazole is not probably acting in your case .
Wear cotton undergarments so as to decrease sweating and prevent further infection .
You can continue to use the antifungal powder .
Repeat this five day course of itraconazole again after three weeks .
I am sure this will help in complete treatment and will prevent any recurrences.
Do not apply any other cream or oil over the affected area.

Hope it helps

Thanks for your prompt reply Doctor.

Like you mentioned I might be resistant to antifungal drugs. If so then I think this another prescription of azole cream (ketoconazole) won't work either.

Why I need to get rid of this skin problem asap is I am getting married this Diwali. So before November I want to get rid of this problem badly...
In worst case if the problem persists till I get married, will my wife be affected with the fungal infection too after coming in contact with the affected area??

Aren't there any other ayurvedic drugs to cure fungal infection (if it is indeed). This is because I may not be resistant to the ayurvedic drugs like these chemical azole creams...
If you know kindly suggest me any ayurvedic cream or other kind of ayurvedic treatment you know apart from above stated solution by you.
Please help me out here.
Thanks for your valuable time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I understand that you are very worried because of your problem but I have already told you the best possible treatment.
Resistance to first line antifungals is a very common problem these days and such patients have to be treated with higher antifungals .
So my advise is that you should take the treatment as advised .
I do not deal in Ayurvedic drugs ,so I cannot really help you in this field.
And yes ,there are chances of transmission of the infection from one person to other by contact ,so you should start treatment right away .
