Question : Hi I was prescribed an antibiotic, Minocycline HCL 100 mg. for a hand eczema staph infection, along with Mupirocin ointment, 2% to be put into my nostrils and a topical ointment Fluocinonide, .05%. I had some adverse reactions to the Minocycline and was only able to take it for 5 days, rather than the the prescribed length of time of 14 days. I have spoken to nurses and the prescribing dermatologist. They just told me to discontinue the Minocycline and call my Primary doctor. I am not happy with this outcome as the Primary doctor had originally told me to see a dermatologist. Is there an alternative oral medication that I could take. May I use Mupirocin on the affected areas on my hands (which are cleared up, but have a slight stinging feeling at times). I just am concerned that the staph could return. Thank you. XXXX

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concern. I am sorry for the dismal situation that you are in. In such a condition I would like to know the present condition. I will also insist you to upload an image of the affected area. It will enable me to suggest the subsequent plan of action.
Let me also tell you that Staphylococcus (shortened as Staph) is present on the skin of each and everyone of us. So, what is already there (and would always be) need not necessarily 'return'. It is just that in case of certain skin ailments Staph complicate the situation and worsen the condition.
I would await your response.
Regards
