Suggest Alternative Medication To Replace Macrodantin And Cipro For Prostatitis And IBS

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Sep 2017
Question:

I am currently taking Macrodantin, 100 mg twice per day for prostatitis, which began about two weeks ago. A UTI has been ruled out.The doctor started me on Cipro, 500 mg twice day, but that quickly caused severe abdominal pain. I suffer from irritable syndrome with chronic constipation, which may be causing the bowel cramping associated with this medication. The Cipro was accompanied by a prescription for Dicyclomine, which didn't relieve the cramping. I also can't take Bactrim or Levaquin. He then put me on Macrodantin, which I've been taking for seven days, with three days to go before the prescription runs out. There has been little or no improvement, even though they told me the inflammation should be getting better by now. I know Cipro has always been effective, but I can't take it now. I am waiting for his decision about what he wants to do. I have doubts about the effectiveness of this medication. He could extend the prescription for another ten days. Although they said prostatitis gets better with a ten-day course of treatment with this medication, I fear that is not the case. In my experience that this problem . gotten better in ten days with any medication. It has always taken much more time than that. In 2004 I suffered a very severe bout with prostatitis that lasted ten weeks, first with Septra for 17 days and then Cipro for another ten weeks, It was an endless nightmare. What am I going to do if I can't take any of the few effective medications for it? Please help me. I am in severe pain and don't know what to do.

Based on the facts that you have posted it seems that you have been diagnosed to be facing a problem of Prostatitis and have been prescribed antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin and Microdantin .

I shall be happy if you can post me more details to help me in making precise comments on your issue
1) What is your age ?
2) Have you consulted qualified Urologist for clinical examination ?
3) Have you been investigated by doing following investigations which is standard protocol for confirmation of diagnosis of Prostattis .
a) Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and Pelvis
b) Trans Rectal Ultrasound Scan(TRUS)
